September 28 大爷与孙子,商场与江湖昨天,MSN Spaces上苏鹏表扬我:“不知道为什么,自从您离开某公司以后,您的blog里所使用的表述让人看起来更清晰方便了。用普通话说,就是更贴近生活了。” 呵呵,一方面说明我有进步;另一方面透露苏鹏是北京人,或在北京待很久了。因为我用了一两个北京人常用的俚语,所以他听的贴切了。呵呵,我一定再接再励,Day Day Up.
昨天说了“甲方是给钱的,是大爷;乙方是拿钱的,是孙子”。在中国的文化中,自古是强调长幼有序,讲究辈分尊卑,所以大爷和孙子的比喻是指金钱、权利造成的人的地位差异;绝非欧美文化中 Grandpa 那种慈祥的圣诞老公公形象。 大爷辈分是爸爸的爸爸的辈分,+2 辈;孙子辈分是儿子的儿子的辈分,-2辈;共差了四个辈分。难免一个天上,一个地下。 但实际上,许多人不习惯作大爷,也不喜欢扮孙子。大家做生意,一样可以以平常心,彼此尊重,互利共赢。所以,北京服务业近来流行喊顾客“大哥大姐”,比以前“师傅”还近一辈。(当然,现在人都学西方,忌讳说人老)。 所以当甲方时,提醒自己不要把自己当大爷;指不定那天风水轮流转,他成了乙方,或许也不会把你当孙子。现在,过去合作过的朋友还看得起我,来找我给我机会,心里格外感激。
这些是指对外。对内,平等的关系,就是大哥与小弟;古书上叫兄弟(我们教会也称兄弟姐妹),北京叫哥们,有“打架靠兄弟”的感觉。 说到这,突然觉得,这从商就好比闯江湖。这创办公司,好比水浒聚义;招人入伙,好比逼良落草;开拓市场,好比占山为寇;商业伙伴,好比武林帮会。呵呵,下面就不敢想了。 这一切,根本上都靠人;谁都希望有精兵强将,但没有梧桐树,招不来金凤凰。现在,一切刚刚开始,都在纸上,愿意来的,就格外显得可贵。 能来,就是看得起你;要留,就得对得起他。
所以昨天有W君确认愿意加盟,这“第一个”的意义,对于我实在是太关键了。尤其是他愿意减少薪资、一起奋斗的心态,我除了感动,只有感激了。所以,我也不能对不起他,该给的都得给,同时主动给他提高一点(他要的太低了,生活会太苦)。还希望公司能尽快开始盈利,恢复大家的正常薪资。
这个转折的日子是该记住的:公元2008年9月27日,W君入伙(落草)。
PS: 昨天,远在加拿大的Winnie,虽然仅在RFID时代有过一些短暂的合作,依然用她自己创业的经历鼓励我,送我一句:Keep your faith and work one day at a time. Winnie: 谢谢,我记住了。 同时我觉得还要“Count each day as my my blessings”。 就把这博客当作我的感恩录吧。 http://vincentyang.cn/blogs/vincentyang/archive/2008/09/28/586.aspx September 26 甲方与乙方,国家与企业我一直从事技术层面,相信能够游刃有余;一直刻意培养商务层面,总还觉得不够火候。 其中有一点感受,就是甲方和乙方,说话的底气是不一样的。我有一个朋友,是微软著名的美女能人,身历微软各部门要职,上管部委重要项目,能直通部长一级,可谓女强人;但为人处事,温文典雅,即使和出租车司机也柔声细语,令我敬仰。我说“你的性格真好。。。”她说“这不是当惯了乙方了吗?”。感慨、受教了。 也许有人还头回听说,我来粗俗的解释一下:一般来说,甲方就是给钱的,乙方就是拿钱的;给钱的是大爷,拿钱的是孙子。
如今离开了微软的光环,顿时谁都是我的甲方,需要学习的地方很多。尤其是在当甲方时,仍然没能自如切换状态,反而于事无补,花了许多时间,做一些自己也知道希望不大的事,除了学点教训,白白浪费大家时间。Need to learn how to say NO, and say it firm and directly.

所以,原来的预算都有问题,看来有国际大公司经验的人都请不起了,就只能请刚毕业的了,要注明不要研究生。(开玩笑,我们强烈、严重的邀请研究生、有经验的高手加盟)。 同时建议要离开大公司出来创业的朋友三思再三思。
难怪马云有句名言:不找精英,只找普通人,来干大事。呵呵,原来以为他是鼓励我们这种普通人也有希望;今天我才顿悟:他就是请不起精英呗。(为什么从牛人口里说的话就能那么有哲理?)
我呢?后悔来不及了,就一定要撑下去,好在有马云这样的好同学做榜样:http://zhidao.baidu.com/question/46984402.html 就找:一,都是迅速决断的人;二,都是想做大事的人;三,都是能做到自己想法的人。 我相信,这种人不少,只要我能碰到一个,就是我俩的福分。 URL: http://vincentyang.cn/blogs/vincentyang/archive/2008/09/25/581.aspx September 23 鱼与熊掌、鸡和蛋的故事凡事有得有失,凡事都有两面。就好像鱼与熊掌不可得兼。现在有很多的自由,可以决定自己的方向,本来就有许多奇思乱想的我,就更是为难了。不是我不懂得鱼与熊掌的道理,只是我不知道那个是鱼,那个是熊掌。 同时,是先有鸡,还是先有蛋,是很难说清的死圈。现在机会不缺,技术上都有把握,但是没兵,都还是纸面上的,有单子也不敢接。是先有兵,还是先有活,也是一个难题。
不过,这不是都是好事吗?只是要有智慧,要有Discipline!
今天也是有好消息,有坏消息;不过,辩证的看,好消息也可能是坏消息,坏消息也可能是好消息。
明天的忧虑明天担,好像明天还有24小时呢。

It has been 37 days since I turned in my laptop, and 15 days after I signed the final paper leaving MS. A lot of things happened, and I got to talk with a lot of interesting people. A lot of these worth blogging, but I felt I owe an update blog for those who cares for me. Quite a few people called or sent email, asking what is my plan for the next half life. I said I will "pretend to think deep" then come up with a plan. Well, just like before, this never happened, and might never happen in the future. Therefore there is no point to wait for a clear story. Here is a brief update: First, I am mentally healthy, neither upset nor worried; same to my family, especially the kids. Actually, I am excited about all those opportunities. I am not looking for hire for now. I have strong passion about the Healthcare Information Vertical in China, and more importantly, I have strong faith in that. Therefore, I will start something in this area, starting as consulting or SI opp's. This is quite different from a lot of ex-msft friends, thus could be a harder route. Call me stupid or stubborn, but this really got me excited, even in my dream at night. I could give you a lot of statistics and other market data, but only companies like MS could bet their business on those data; for small potatoes like me, the chance would be much greater if my goal is a lot lower. And even if I failed, I could comfort myself that my works benefit a lot of people for a better life. And we will not leave Beijing, because my wife extended my "probation" to five more years -- stay in until my daughter goes to junior high. :) So far, my philosophy works: the world is flat, and your "brand name" is critical to decide your business's fate; and I believe "my value is to bring value to others". So I am looking for opportunities that can bring value, and I am looking for people who will share the same long term vision. Praise to the Lord, HE has provided a lot more than I will expect, so much so that I am a little bit scared. :) Proverbs 3:5 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding". In Healthcare market, great wisdom is not to try to be too "smart". PS: for those sent me email, my email was stuff in MS exchange, and I need to fix the sync between my two notebook and cell phone before I get time to reply.
